Dallas Arboretum ()

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens include 66 acres of gardens which overlook White Rock Lake. The Arboretum's theme is to let nature, nurture you. The landscaping is exquisite and it's an ideal location for weddings, walking and just learning about nature. For some families who do not have gardens of their own and even for some families that do garden, the botanical gardens are a treat for the eye and a salve for the soul. Regular admission is $9.50 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $6 for children between the ages of 3 and 12. Children under 3 are admitted free. The idea for the Arboretum was born in the 1930s and in 1974 the Arboretum adopted the by-laws it celebrates today. A family membership allows free visits and discounts at the gift shop, dining locations and educational classes including summer camps for the kids. Whether you visit frequently or just once per year, all Dallasites should make a trek to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

The Dallas World Aquarium is a true gem hidden in Dallas' West End. Unlike most aquariums, visiting the Dallas World Aquarium is like stepping into the depths of a rain forest in the middle of the city. For a hefty admission fee, visitors are treated to a magical journey into the rainforests and waterways of the world. See the wonderful pair of otters frolic, ducks and swans swim, manatees drift and lemurs can even be found along with howler monkeys and more. Visitors will see demonstrations from various parts of the world and wander through the different levels of the rain forest. You'll see penguins from South Africa and Madagascar as well as sharks from the warmer waters and plenty of rays. Truly, the Dallas World Aquarium is a garden of life in a forest of fun and well worth the admission fees: adults are $18.95, children (3-12 years) are $10.95, seniors (60 and up) are admitted for $14.95. All children under 2 are admitted free. Memberships range from a $95 for individuals to $195 for families. Membership saves you a ton of money on regular visits to the DWA as well as discounts at the great restaurants and gift shops inside the aquarium.

Located at Fair Park, the Texas Discovery Gardens include acres of organic gardens and farms as well as butterfly farms and more. Visitors can attend the many varied special events and contact the gardens for an appointment or educational class. The gardens are more geared towards special events and education with admission fees varying based on the event. The events change from month to month and season to season.
