Self Cleaning Feature
The Kenmore was the only hot water heater we found that had the self cleaning system. The water is supposed to swirl around inside the tank as it is filling up, thus cleaning the inside of the tank. Some plumbers and manufacturers were not even aware that this feature was available. This is perfect for homes, like ours, that have very hard water. Over time the mineral deposits from the hard water accumulate inside the hot water heater, forming a scale. This diminishes the hot waters performance and makes it more costly to operate.

Installation
We were shocked when we learned what it costs to have a hot water heater installed! It cost nearly as much as the unit itself! We did not have Sears install it, but we did go with a friend who is a certified appliance repair man who had 20 years of previous Sears work experience under his belt. We saved $100 by hiring our own installer.
Satisfaction
We have had the water heater for a year, and are very pleased with it. We always have hot water when we need it, and have never run out, even when all three of us take showers within an hour of each other. We chose the 40 gallon water heater because it was 58 inches tall and only 18 inches in diameter. We had a small area that we needed to put it in, and these dimentions worked better than the shorter, fatter units.
We feel we made a smart buying decision, and have not regretted purchasing this Kenmore Miser water heater.
