What is Stress Coat for Fish Tanks, and Do You Need It?
People who have fish tanks should know what Stress Coat is. Stress Coat is a type of water dechlorinator.
Stress Coat can be purchased from any local pet store. It's not very expensive. You can also choose from many different kinds of water conditioners but they all work the same way, to remove chlorine and hard chemicals from your aquarium. Never change your water without adding stress coat. Even if you leave your water sit for 24 hours and the chlorine is gone there still might be hard chemical in your water such as copper.
Stress Coat does remove the chlorine and it also removes hard metals and adds a protective coating to your fish. Every time you touch your fish, with your hand, net or anything else, the fish will loose it's protective coating. The fish will then be very susceptible to different illnesses and diseases such as different bacterial infections known as ich and fin rot.
As you can see, Stress Coat is very important. Most people know what Stress Coat is but most people who just set up an aquarium do not think to add anything to the water. This chemical is not very expensive and you can purchase a bottle for around six or seven dollars and it will probably last for for at least several months. You can also purchase a large jug and keep refilling your smaller bottle which will be cheaper. It's something that you will always need for your fish tank so you will want to purchase a big enough bottle to last you a little while. You will need to add cap fulls of Stress Coat to your aquarium with every water change.
You might also want to put some stress coat in your fish tank after your fish get sick and have been treated. Usually they will be so stressed out that they will not have a protective coating on them and they can quickly get another disease or illness. Stress Coat can be purchased online if you can not find it at your local pet store. You will still have to pay for shipping so you might want to purchase some other types of things so that you do not pay so much for shipping.
