The Tennessee Aquarium - Get More Bang for Your Buck
The Tennessee Aquarium is actually two aquariums in one. An entire facility for two separate types of residents!
The Tennessee Aquarium is one attraction that is a definite "must see". Within driving distance of one of the most popular vacation destinations, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Aquarium can be found in Chattanooga. With this Aquarium, you definitely get more bang for your buck!
Typically, when you think of an aquarium, the initial thought is a large glass building full of various fish species. At the Tennessee Aquarium, it's double the fun. Technically, it's two aquariums under one name. There two separate buildings that make up this attraction.
The River Journey is the first building we took a stroll through. Upon entering the building, guests are immediately directed up a huge escalator to the top floor. From there, exhibits and aquatic life can be observed while following a path all the way down to the bottom floor. A quick tour through this facility takes approximately an hour, while stopping to take in more details and strolling through at a slower pace will obviously take longer.
Once you've finished with the River Journey, you've still got the other building to get through. This one is the Ocean Journey. Set up in much of the same manner as the River Journey, the Ocean Journey allows easy access to all exhibits without missing a thing by following the flow of the paths. The Ocean Journey also takes about an hour to get through at a quick pace, so visiting the entire Aquarium can fill most of a day.
At the Tennessee Aquarium, guests can see fish not normally seen at other aquariums. There are also lots of opportunities for "hands on" activities. Touch horseshoe crabs with your own hands. Reach in and pet the large sturgeons. Stroke the soft and playful stingrays and small sharks.
Other animals take up residence at the Aquarium as well. Watch penguins as they playfully swim and waddle around. A magnificent pair of Hyacinth Macaws clown around to entertain guests. Snakes, turtles, frogs, toads, lizards and even butterflies are an excellent addition to the Aquarium.
Expect to spend anywhere from $20 to $30 per person for tickets. Combo packages are available to add in a chance to visit the Aquarium Imax 3D theater for a discounted rate when Aquarium tickets are purchased.
The Tennessee Aquarium is one of the best in the country and can be an all day event. Activities for all ages, dining available on the premises, convenient parking and easy to locate, the Aquarium in Chattanooga is a perfect place to spend a vacation.
