Cichlids are not extremely hard to keep alive. They are somewhat easy if you know the basics of keeping fish. You need a good filter system which over filters the tank, and a bubbler. You will need the correct type and size of gravel. Buy small gravel that wont get stuck in the fishes mouth. You can purchase live plants which you bury in the rock. You can place these in a tank with any type of rock, it does not have to be gravel.

Cichlids come in every color imaginable which is why people buy them. They look great in a tank but it has to be a large tank which can house each fish. This means that you will have to buy a heater because normal temperature for a tank is about 75 degrees.
